Utility Locator Technician

The Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Department is seeking technicians to work on project sites to locate underground utilities through non-destructive methods and in the office to document the underground utility field data in CAD format. The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include:

Two (2) years of locating experience preferred
Ability to research and review utility company records and identify utilities from field observation
Ability to read and work with TxDOT and municipal plans

Understanding of utility construction methods
Knowledge of different locating equipment, AutoCAD and MicroStation drafting programs
Capable of making field decisions without direct supervision

Excellent communication skills and a team attitude

Our SUE technicians will be required to travel Statewide in Texas approximately 60% of the time and must be willing to work 10 to 12 hours per day when working on project sites. A civil technician degree is a plus, but experience will be considered as a substitute for the degree. The position reports to the SUE crew manager.
