GIS Technician

A GIS Technician is needed to perform data entry, update and maintenance functions for a Geographic Information System (GIS) database as part of the GIS department. The successful candidate’s most important qualifications:


An Associate’s degree in Geographic Information Science, Geography, Computer Science, Management of Information Science or a closely related field or related experience


The GIS Technician will perform data entry, update and maintenance functions for a GIS database using workstations, personal computers and GIS software. The candidate will work on core data while maintaining database standards and system security. They will research and evaluate source data using standard methods and documentation and interpret and transfer data from source documents. It will be important that they perform quality control for database maintenance and review the input and output to ensure integrity of database changes. The Technician will locate and compile graphic data and attributes from plans, profiles and other sources. Then they will geocode data files using GIS software and analyze output and research to correct source problems. Manually locating addresses may be necessary. This position reports to the GIS Department Manager. Minimum travel may be required. Benefits include a competitive compensation package.
